Part1 www.youtube.com Working with the definition of antiques, vintage baseball gloves are gloves that are younger than 100 years old. The very first gloves were made in the 1870′s, which means gloves made after 1910 are considered vintage and gloves made before this year are considered antique baseball gloves. Gloves made in 1910 are characteristic of having a single one inch web between the thumb and forefinger. The gloves themselves resemble hand gloves, with each finger having an individual pocket, and each of the fingers on the glove are separated. Vintage gloves are often dark in color, having black or dark brown leather instead of the tan leather of modern gloves and mitts, though Spalding produced some grey leather gloves during this decade. As time passed, manufacturers began focusing on the padding of the glove and on the web between the fingers. Around the 1930′s, the webs began to resemble the modern glove woven webs we have on gloves today, but come the 1940′s the web became one large piece of leather. These are known as “spit finger” gloves. This lasted till the 1970′s. And though this type of web remained constant, other characteristics of the glove began to change. The palm and finger area slowly began to look like modern gloves; fingers were slowly brought closer together and the coloring of the glove began to lighten.
